PSG Newsletter Deadline

The deadline for submissions to the next PSG Newsletter is February 13th, 2009. Please ensure that all e-mails reach me before this date. I would like to take this opportunity to remind people that submissions can be made throught the website (click here) as well as by post or e-mail.

OpenSearch PlugIn

You can now download an OpenSearch plugin for the Phasmid Study Group website from here . This will allow you to search the saite directly from your browser in Internet Explorer 7 or Firefox.

IE 6 Compatability

We have now made the site fully compatible with Microsoft's Internet Explorer 6. If you are still using this version of the browser we recommend upgrading to version 7 or, preferably, getting Firefox instead.

E-mail Updates

There's been a lot going on at the Phasmid Study Group website recently, however it's hard to keep everybody up-to-date with progress.

From now on I will be able to mark new items of content so that they will be e-mailed automatically to those who need to be notified. If you are reading this post from Sticktalk then you are one of the first to benefit from this new system!

Further updates will come as we make site updates.

PSG News and Twitter

If you use Twitter be sure to follow all of the latest Phasmid Study Group News: http://twitter.com/psg_news.

Phasmid Studies Online

I have recently been making some changes to the way that Phasmid Studies is provided from this site. At present the journal can be downloaded in complete volumes only, but I will be making the transition to individual articles. This follows the vast majority of online journal providers. The ability to download full volumes will be retained.

This has a number of advantages, the main one being that it will make it easier for people to find the articles that they want. It will also allow users to link directly to a given article.

At the moment the individual articles are being created and uploaded to the site's bibliography. We are waiting for the Scratchpad developers to add some much-needed functionality to the panels module and then we will be able to present Phasmid Studies online with a much more user-friendly interface.

New Newsletters

Some new newsletter back issues have been made available for members. All of the issues for which I have been editor (109-115) are now available as PDFs. The remaining issues (43-108) will be added in batches over the cvoming months. Issues for which I have been sent digital copies of the original will be first, issues I have to scan will be added later.

New Calendar

The 'Forthcoming Events' page has now been updated to a Google Calendar. If you have a Google Calendar you can now subscribe to our calendar and automatically receive information on new events.

Spanish Version

Work on a basic version of this site in Spanish is underway, the translation being done by Pablo Valero Riquelme. Besides the work done in translating the content, there is some to be done by us in order to implement this in a logical and sustainable way.

Any other offers of translation are gratefully accepted!

Links between orthopteroid Scratchpads

The species taxonomy on this site has now been expanded upwards to include the taxon Orthopteroidea, which allows us to list various sister-taxa to the phasmida, namely the blattodea (cockroaches) and mantodea (mantids). All three orders (phasmida, blattodea, mantodea) have Scratchpad sites and linking between them allows people to quickly switch between sites.
